What is a Podcast and How can I listen to Dallas Does Indie?
I have been hearing that there are people out there who don't know what a podcast is, or they don't know how to listen to Dallas Does Indie. So I have taken it upon myself this Thanksgiving holiday to put together a little "how to" and hopefully help those who need it.
1st off:
A podcast or podcasting, is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. It first became popular in late 2004, used largely for audio files.
Now I know there are some of you out there that are saying to yourself, "feed"? What does he mean by "feed"? Well, a feed is generally referring to an RSS feed, which is what is required for listeners or subscribers such as yourself to be able to download the file that the author or host has published to the internet. It's basically a bunch of code that if you knew how to create you wouldn't need to be reading this anyways. Usually those wishing to create their own podcast do so by going through a third party host like Audioblog or Libsyn. When using one of these or any other third party host, all you really have to do is record your podcast and upload your file. The good news is, that if all you want to do is listen to a podcast the process is as easy as pumpkin pie.
2nd off:
If all you want to do is subscribe to my weekly show, Dallas Does Indie, be happy - it's EASY! All you have to do is download a program which supports podcast subscriptions. The most popular is iTunes, which also has many other capabilities built within it. Most notably, it is a great place to purchase the artists music that I feature on the show. Once you download iTunes or another podcast player you can drag the icon on the right side of this webpage which says "Podcast" into the designated area for xml addresses. OR, even easier for those of you with iTunes - you can go to the music store and enter "Dallas Does Indie" into the search box. You will be able to subscribe to the show and that's it - YOU'RE DONE!
I hope this helps those of you who were having some trouble joining in on the fun. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving! Tune in next week.
